A PDA is lightweight – PDAs weigh a lot less than laptops. It is harder to carry a laptop to class than a PDA. You could place your PDAs into your purse or pocket. You would need a bag usually to bring your laptop.

Because of this, it is more difficult to bring laptops to class. With laptops, you will also need to set it up and wait for the programs to load, you will also need to go through a whole process of things just to start a program you would want to use. PDAs have fewer things to sort through which makes it easier to start it up. All you need to do is just turn on the PDA and select the program you would want to use and you will be good to go in just a couple of seconds.

You may think that since the laptop has much more memory it would be a better buy right? Well the truth is, having less memory may have some advantages eventually.

You could transfer everything from your PDA to a personal computer or laptop easily whenever you need to use information transferred there. After this you could start adding new data to your PDA. This makes your PDA into a constant source for new material which could be transferred directly into whatever computer you want.

One other advantage of the PDA having little memory is that you will sort through fewer things whenever you want to start a program or look for a file. A laptop holds a lot of files and it make take you awhile to look for the file you want to use. This makes the battle of PDA and laptops into a matter of volume versus speed.

As for being a portable music player, PDA wins hands down. No one would want to start a laptop just to listen to some songs. Because PDAs are easy to carry, lightweight and easy to operate, people love to use them as music players.
